If your website is not optimised for mobile, you have less than a week to sort it out or risk a drop in your rankings on Google. The search engine giant will change its algorithm on April 21. The change will reward mobile-friendly websites with better mobile search engine rankings.
All this comes in the wake of increasing mobile device usage. In fact, statistics show that mobile internet use is fast overtaking desktop use. In the last 12 months, 33 per cent of Australian shoppers purchased something via their smartphones. And, over 60 per cent of all online traffic now comes through a mobile device.
Google has released this test to see how well your website will fare once the changes take place.
This is one of the biggest changes Google has made in recent years, with regards to mobile search, and in a statement Google said: “This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”
